Seth Moulton says he doesn't want his girls “to be run over on the field by a male or former male athlete”: NY Times

It didn't take long for the Democrats' blame game to begin following Donald Trump's victory and the Republican red wave that swept the country.

Democrats pointing fingers include Congressman Seth Moulton of Massachusetts, who reportedly said Democrats have “lost touch with the American people.”

“I have two little girls. I don't want them to be run over on the field by a male or former male athlete. But as a Democrat, I should be afraid to say that,” Moulton reportedly told a New York Times reporter following Tuesday’s election.

Trump's campaign spent tens of millions of dollars on anti-transgender messaging, attacking Vice President Kamala Harris and the Democrats.

The Democratic Party needs to “preach less and listen more,” Moulton reportedly told the Times.

The congressman is drawing attention online for his transgender comments, including from Mass Equality, which said in a statement that the group was “extremely disturbed” by his “attacks on transgender athletes.”

Moulton's comments “deepened our community's sense of vulnerability,” the organization said in its statement. “The Congressman's comments referring to transgender athletes as 'male or formerly male' were both damaging and factually inaccurate.

“These statements contribute to the ongoing stigmatization of transgender people, particularly transgender women and girls, in sports,” Mass Equality added.

The group said it reached out to Moulton to meet with him about the issue.

“Our community is deeply hurt by these comments that reinforce harmful stereotypes and undermine the dignity of transgender athletes,” Tanya Neslusan, executive director of Mass Equality, said in a statement.

“We hope that by working with the congressman we can work toward a more comprehensive and informed understanding of transgender issues in sports,” the executive added.
