Arrest warrant issued for man accused of killing woman

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – Toledo Police are asking for the community's help in finding a man accused of murder.

Investigators issued an arrest warrant for Deondrae Ballard for his connection to the murder of a young mother.

“I just want everyone to know that she was a good mother,” the victim’s daughter said.

Elisha Meraz's family misses her every day.

The 32-year-old woman was shot last month outside a bar near Church Street and Prentice Avenue.

Her daughter said her mother had a caring heart.

“You know some of the children who don't have things like clothes, shoes, gloves, hats and things like that. Even the kids here who come to play didn’t really have stuff and we gave them stuff, snacks and things like that,” the daughter said.

Toledo police are searching for Ballard, whom investigators have charged with murder.

Police said the young mother was not the intended target.

The victim's family said Meraz did not know Ballard and was caught in the crossfire.

“At first I was like my mother. “I couldn’t believe it at first,” said the victim’s daughter.

The victim's family hopes that if you see Deondrae Ballard you will call the police.

Toledo police say you may be eligible for a reward of up to $5,000 if you can help them find Ballard.
