Following the accident, there is a preliminary plan for the busy SH-16 intersection

A preliminary operating plan is now in place for the intersection of State Highway 16 and Substation Road in Emmett following an accident in October.

On October 16, a large truck collided with the traffic light at this busy intersection, causing significant damage to both the traffic light's foundation and power line. As a result, the intersection has now been reopened with an interim traffic regime to ensure safety and mobility until final repairs are carried out.

As part of this preliminary operating plan, stop signs were installed to ease traffic flow. Drivers can perform the following movements:

Westbound SH-16 to Substation Road (turn right)
Eastbound SH-16 to Substation Road (turn left)
Motorists can only turn right onto the highway on Substation Road. Those wishing to cross the highway or turn left will be detoured to South John Avenue. To mitigate safety risks at the intersection, it is best to redirect traffic to a signalized intersection.
The Idaho Department of Transportation expects these temporary measures to remain in effect through the end of November. This time frame allows for new parts to be ordered as well as demolition and reconstruction of the foundation and restoration of electrical connections.

ITD appreciates the public's patience and encourages drivers to always check their route at 511.idaho.gov.
