A man is killed in a violent accident in Opelika

OPELIKA, Ala. (WTVM) – A 44-year-old man is dead after a car accident occurred near Lafayette Parkway in Opelika Wednesday evening.

According to the Opelika Police Department, authorities received a call about a single-vehicle accident near the 3200 block of Lafayette Parkway in Opelika on Wednesday evening at approximately 11:55 p.m. According to OPD, they responded to the call and upon arrival saw a vehicle fully engulfed in flames. To contain the flames, Opelika firefighters used a fire extinguisher.

After the fire was extinguished, authorities discovered an unresponsive man inside the vehicle. The 44-year-old man, who has not yet been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators believe the victim was driving north on Lafayette Parkway when the vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree.
