JJ Redick is going viral for his comments about the player before the 76ers-Lakers

Former Philadelphia 76ers guard and current Los Angeles Lakers head coach JJ Redick raised some eyebrows this week after the Lakers lost on the road to the Memphis Grizzlies.

When LA lost its second game in a row, Redick was understandably frustrated with the slow start to the week. Several moments from his postgame press conference in Memphis had fans talking.

When Redick spoke about the lack of playing time for veteran guard D'Angelo Russell, the clip went viral on social media, making the situation something to keep an eye on when the Philadelphia 76ers visit the Lakers on Friday night .

During Wednesday's game between the Lakers and Grizzlies, Russell played just over 20 minutes. For a starter who has played an average of 30 minutes this season, the situation was quite concerning.

Redick was incredibly honest about why Russell saw such limited playing time.

“Competition level – attention to detail – some of the things I talked to him about for a few weeks. Sometimes he's really good at it, and sometimes he just falls back into certain habits. It wasn’t a punishment, it just felt like we had a chance to win this game and that was exactly the path we wanted to take.”

Last season, Russell was an important contributor for the Lakers. In his 76 appearances, the veteran guard scored 18 points per game while shooting 46 percent from the field and 42 percent from three. He also handed out six assists.

This year, Russell's production has taken a hit. In eight games, he averaged just 12 points while shooting 38 percent from the field and 29 percent from three. Based on Redick's comments, it appears that Russell isn't always on the same page as his teammates. The result? Less minutes.

It's unclear whether or not Russell's lack of playing time will impact Friday's game against the Sixers. Much like the Sixers, the Lakers are looking to get back on track as they enter Friday's game in the midst of a losing streak.

The two teams will announce themselves at 10:00 p.m. ET.
