After a politically charged week, Michael Douglas visited Bill Maher to discuss Donald Trump's victory.

“The other thing I just have to share, after Tuesday night, Wednesday morning, [I’m] “I’m just so mad about this razor-thin race,” he told Maher. “With all these polls it would be so close… and it's a failure. I had no idea how this could have happened. So on Wednesday morning I go down to play golf just to clear my head. I play nine holes and get a hole-in-one.”

Referring to inflation and the death of the middle class, Douglas later said: “The very fact that we can now talk about the Republicans as the party of the people, and we are this elite party on the left, the Democrats, is crazy. “

Douglas previously produced and starred in this summer's documentary America is burningwhich highlights the country's economic divide.

After portraying Benjamin Franklin in this year's Apple TV+ miniseries FranklinDouglas also speculated how the founding father would have reacted to the recent election. “Oh, I think he would have another drink,” he said.

Trump defeated Kamala Harris in Tuesday's election to become the 47th President of the United States after previously serving one term as the 45th and losing re-election to President Joe Biden. The victory makes him, at 78, the first felon and oldest person to be elected president.
