Man from Minn. arrested in Crisp County with stolen car and loaded gun

CRISP COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) – A Minnesota man was arrested by Crisp County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) officers after the flock system alerted officers to a stolen vehicle.

According to a CCSO release, the alert was in reference to a stolen 1999 GMC Denali from Montgomery, Minnesota, where an armed and wanted suspect may have been driving the vehicle.

Officers found the vehicle in the parking lot of Love's Truck Stop. The officers, along with members of the Mid-South Narcotics Task Force, took a tactical approach to the vehicle.

According to CCSO, the suspect was sleeping in the back seat with a loaded shotgun within easy reach.

CCSO identified the suspect as Bryton Nelson, 29. He was taken into custody without incident.

He is wanted for the following:

  • Violation of a protective order out of Scott County, Minnesota
  • Theft of a vehicle out of Rice County, Minnesota

Nelson now faces the following charges:

  • Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
  • Possession of a weapon while committing certain crimes
  • Theft by bringing stolen property into the state

“Sheriff Hancock is proud of his deputies and the safe arrest of Nelson,” the release said.
