Lakers vs. 76ers Final result: Lakers sail to comeback victory

The Lakers' return home brought with it a return to winning ways. Behind strong performances from Anthony Davis and Austin Reaves and a triple-double from LeBron James, the Lakers posted a fairly comfortable record of 116-106 Victory over the exhausted Sixers.

Anthony Davis had another dominant game. He scored fifteen of his 31 points in the first quarter. He also grabbed seven rebounds and had four blocks. Austin Reaves was red-hot behind the arc and took a 6-10 lead. He scored 20 points with seven assists and six rebounds before the end.

LeBron James had a slower game, scoring 21 points, but still finished the game with a triple-double, dishing out 13 dimes and grabbing 12 rebounds. After being substituted, D'Angelo Russell responded with one of his best games of the season, scoring 18 points.

The Lakers started red hot behind the arc. Rui Hachimura, AD, Austin and Cam Reddish all hit three-pointers. Barely five minutes into the game, LA had already made five of its six three-point attempts, giving it an 11-point lead.

LA's defense was much better than in recent games. They defeated the Sixers, who were missing their two superstars Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey. After Caleb Martin knocked down a few shots, the Sixers gained some momentum.

Although Philadelphia cut the deficit to three, AD dominated and helped the Lakers extend their lead to seven at the end of the first period.

Los Angeles had a strong performance offensively in the second quarter. Thanks to goals from D'Lo and Gabe Vincent, they went back up by 11 points. The Lakers stayed hot from distance and Austin scored his second goal of the game.

Philadelphia suddenly stepped up offensively as both Jared McCain and Guerschon Yabusele made 3-pointers, making it a one-point game. Austin hit two more three-pointers from behind the arc to make it 4-4.

Three minutes before half-time it was a completely new game as it was a draw. The Sixers went up by two, but AD drilled a three-pointer and the Lakers took the lead by one. The hosts got hot offensively after another three from Reaves. AD and LeBron also scored and extended the lead.

At halftime, LA was ahead 68-60.

The Sixers started the second half with a three-pointer. Austin was still red-hot behind the arc and knocked down another 3-pointer. After starting the game with two three-pointers, Rui struggled offensively until he practiced another long-range shot.

The Lakers had the momentum, although Philadelphia was still trying to get back into the game. At halftime, LA had a lead of 15. The quarter belonged to Los Angeles as they maintained a comfortable lead and continued to prevent the Sixers from gaining ground.

LeBron had as many as 12 assists after a behind-the-back pass to D'Lo for a 3-pointer. Yabusele hit a three-pointer of his own to bring the Sixers within 15 points at the end of the third period.

The final frame began with the Lakers still in full control of the game, despite Sixers rookie McCain attempting to single-handedly bring them back. LeBron secured his triple-double with two more rebounds. Jaxson Hayes converted a layup and a dunk to extend the Lakers' lead to 18.

Philadelphia was pesky and attempted a comeback by knocking down 3-point shots while former Laker Andre Drummond threw bodies around deep. LA's offense stalled until D'Lo hit a layup.

The Sixers couldn't complete their attempt at a fake comeback and the Lakers pulled out a nice win.

Key Takeaways:

D'Lo coming off the bench was a huge boost for the bench. He looked much more comfortable. It was a successful change of starting formation.

The Lakers need to learn to maintain a big enough lead so they don't panic and get LeBron and AD back in the game with four minutes left in the fourth.

The fact that AD is playing crazy and still putting up MVP numbers makes his MVP claim even stronger.

With Max Christie getting poor playing time, that's either a good thing or his confidence is plummeting even further.

The Lakers will look to get back on the winning list against the Toronto Raptors on Sunday at 6:30 p.m. PT.
