Clovis woman found not guilty of first-degree murder

CLOVIS, NM (KFDA) – A Curry County jury has found a woman not guilty of first-degree murder after a five-day trial.

Alexandra Romero, 29, of Clovis, was found not guilty this evening.

Romero had been charged with first-degree murder in the August 2023 shooting death of Javier Jimenez after Jimenez broke into her home.

During the trial, the defense presented evidence that Romero had been stalked and threatened by Jimenez for months.

Romero was granted a protective order by a Curry County judge, but the increasing threats led to Romero receiving her firearms training and a concealed carry license.

Jimenez continued to threaten Romero before finally breaking into her home.

The break-in led to Romero shooting Jimenez to defend herself and her children.

If convicted, Romero could have faced a possible life sentence.
