What to expect from this year's Black Friday deals

Black Friday always brings discounts in almost every category imaginable. Of course, the offers are better in some years than in others. Below, our senior deals editor Kara Cuzzone shares her thoughts on what consumers can expect in 2024.

More offers overall

As economic uncertainty increases this year, we'll likely see more deals overall this Black Friday. Retailers will encourage shopping this holiday season, and offering further discounts is a proven way to attract consumers. I predict there will be even more discounts than usual at the big box stores, and there might even be some deals from brands that don't normally participate in Black Friday as they look to move some of their inventory.

Discounts on everyday items

Over the past few months, our editors have noticed that shoppers seem to be focused on stocking up on everyday essentials. Retailers have probably realized this too, so I expect to see a shift towards more offerings on personal care products and household must-haves rather than the typical focus on gift items.

A rise in rare deals on big ticket items

Black Friday often brings the lowest prices of the year for big-ticket items, and I expect retailers to benefit even more in 2024. More expensive items that were in high demand in previous years – such as the Dyson hairdryer or the PlayStation 5 – are also no longer being sold. To capture consumer interest, brands may be more willing to offer special deals on these rarely discounted items than they have been in the past.
