Kelly Reilly Says 'Yellowstone' Cast Wanted to Give Fans 'The Ending They Deserve' (Exclusive)

Filming the final season of Yellowstone As Kelly Reilly recalls, they left her cast on a mission to do their best until the last camera finished recording.

Speaking to PEOPLE, Reilly, 47, who plays Beth Dutton in the hit Western drama series, says the show's cast had the specific intention of “baring everything.” Yellowstoneis the last episodes.

“There were moments when we all just looked around and appreciated the moment, the beautiful day or the situation that had just happened… you thought, 'Well, this might be the last time we do this.' “So there was a treat,” says the star about returning to filming on the series, which took place in May. “Definitely for me, and I really felt that with a lot of the cast who wanted to bare it all this year.”

Reilly continues: “It was like, 'Let's just put our hearts into this and give these characters and the series the ending they deserve.' And the fans, because people experienced such an adventure with us.”

The final episodes arrive on November 10th, almost two years after the midseason finale. Reilly says it's “tough” for the cast not to be able to give fans a season every year. “But anyway, we have these six episodes, these final six episodes, to end this chapter Yellowstone and they’re pretty epic and full,” she shares.

The last time fans saw it Yellowstonehis characters remained deeply involved in the turmoil brewing at the Dutton ranch. Beth found herself in the thick of things as her father, John's (Kevin Costner) right-hand man, helped maintain the ranch. Given the responsibilities on that front, the turmoil with her brother Jamie (Wes Bentley) and outside forces, and the growing responsibilities towards husband Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) and pseudo-adoptive son Carter (Finn Little), Reilly highlights the “quite emotional” conclusion of the episodes, that are still to come.

“There was a real mentality of wanting to do something together that felt important,” Reilly says of them and the cast’s work. “And I think we felt that way this year with this show, as it was the end of this chapter, the end of this story, this saga, this moment in the Dutton story… we felt really protected when it came to that “To deliver that.” Last season I hope for the best.”

Ultimately, Reilly admits that there was a “shift in gratitude to be back and working with her cast members” when they returned to Montana to complete season five. (Costner did not return to the show due to scheduling conflicts.)

“Our industry has suffered such a major setback…Everyone returning to work has been a very different experience. Therefore, the gratitude was great and it was not a given that we could all do what we all like to do again, even if the circumstances [were] Not always perfect or difficult, but we were happy to see each other and to be back where we knew this place, where we know each other. I think there was a great feeling of returning home, but for the last time.”

Yellowstone returns Sunday, November 10th at 8pm ET/PT on the Paramount Network. All five seasons are streaming on Peacock and Paramount+.
