29 mins: Nunes plays the ball inside to Kovacic, who lines up for a long-range shot, but changes his mind and plays a low pass forward to Lewis. A few moments later the ball lands back at Kovacic, and this time he has a blast that Verbruggen parries. City are in a state of near total dominance and Brighton are on the ropes.

25 minutes: That was a beautifully weighted pass from Kovacic, but Haaland needed the strength of an ox and two bites of cherry to hold off two Brighton defenders and beat Verbruggen.

GOAL! Brighton – Man City 0-1 (Haaland 23)

City tour. Kovacic plays Haaland in the back and his shot on goal is only half blocked by Verbruggen, but does not reach the goal. Under pressure from Jean Paul van Hecke, Haaland scores in his second attempt by rolling past the downed goalkeeper and landing the ball on the underside of the crossbar.

share

22 mins: A Rutter cross from the left is too close to the City goal and Ederson comfortably gets through before Welbeck can do any damage.

share

21 mins: Jahmai Simpson-Pusey plays in the middle of the back three when City have the ball and the 18-year-old has not made a mistake on his Premier League debut so far.

share

19 mins: Yasin Ayari is booked for pulling Phil Foden to the ground with both hands as the City man tried to escape upstairs. He can't complain about that.

share

18 minutes: When trying to reach a cross from the left at the far post, Erling Haaland can only shoot his shot high over the crossbar. The city comes to the top.

share

17 mins: Whatever it is with Mitoma vs. Walker, Estupinan vs. Savinho is already shaping up to be a very one-sided contest. As things stand, the Brazilian has his sights set on the Brighton left-back.

share

15 minutes: Bart Verbruggen defended Savinho with his outstretched leg as the City winger ran on from a pass from Mateo Kovacic and missed his goal. Good rescue!

share

15 minutes: Mitoma tries to spot a pass from Georginio Rutter behind the City defense, but the Frenchman is offside.

share

14 mins: An attempted cross from Savinho from the right towards the far post flies just over the Brighton crossbar and lands on the roof of the net.

share

12 minutes: Veltman plays the ball backwards for Yasin Ayari to chase, but City pushes forward. The Brighton midfielder is miles offside.

share

11 mins: After the 10-minute mark, we have yet to see a shot from any player on either side.

share

9 minutes: Nunes tries to take on Veltman again but gets no change from the Brighton defender and is forced backwards. A few moments later, Savinho attacks, beats Pervis Estupinan on the right sideline and reaches the baseline, but cannot find a teammate as he retreats.

share

8 minutes: Mitoma puts Walker under pressure as he tries to clear from City's right-back, but the ball goes out and is thrown in by Brighton's Japanese winger.

share

7 minutes: Mateo Kovacic plays a ball over the ball so that Savinho can chase him, but puts way too much rubber on his pass. Bart Verbruggen quickly gets out of his goal and grabs the bouncing ball.

share

4 minutes: Danny Welbeck coughs up cheap possession to Walker in midfield and City move upfield before handing the ball back to their hosts.

share

3 minutes: City are spinning the ball around in defense under a fairly energetic press from Brighton. Kaoru Mitoma vs. Kyle Walker should prove to be one of the most intriguing fights of this game.

These teams: Brighton make one change from the team that lost to Liverpool last weekend with Simon Adingra coming on for Ferdi Kadoiglu, who along with Carlos Baleba and Lewis Dunk are excluded from today's matchday squad. Matt O'Riley and Joao Pedro are back from injury and are among the home team's substitutes.

Pep Guardiola makes two changes to the team that lost to Sporting CP in midweek. Kyle Walker replaces Manuel Akanji, who started the game with an injury and is on the bench today. Teenage central defender Jahmai Simpson-Pusey makes his Premier League debut after starting the game against Sporting. Bernardo Silva is on the bench today alongside Kevin De Bruyne and Nathan Ake, while Ilkay Gündogan is in the starting line-up.

Early team news

Without Adam Webster, Solly March, James Milner, Brighton are also sweating over the fitness of Yasin Ayari, Lewis Dunk and Yankuba Minteh, but could add Joao Pedro and Matt O'Riley to today's matchday squad after their respective breaks.

With Ballon d'Or winner Rodri ruled out for the season and Oscar Bobb still recovering from a broken leg, Pep Guardiola has other injury concerns to contend with as Jack Grealish, John Stones and Ruben Dias could all miss tonight's game.

In better news for the champions, Kevin De Bruyne was included in the final two matchday squad and was back on the pitch for a few minutes during City's Champions League defeat to Sporting in midweek.

Premier League: Brighton vs Manchester City

Manchester City travel to the south coast after three consecutive defeats in three different competitions. For the first time since 2018, Pep Guardiola's team has lost two games in a row.

They face a Brighton side who have lost consecutive games to Liverpool in the Carabao Cup and Premier League, but Fabian Hurzeler is confident his team can compete against champions who score goals and look unusually vulnerable.

Kick-off at the Amex Stadium is at 5:30pm, but we will provide updates and team preparations in the meantime.
