Georgia Tech RB is out against Miami

Georgia Tech running back Jamal Haynes left the field Saturday against Miami after taking a hit to the head.

Haynes took the handoff from quarterback Aaron Philo, who came on in place of starter Haynes King, with about 12 minutes left in the first quarter. Haynes suffered a blow to the head during the play and was carted off the field due to a possible concussion. Simeon Barrow Jr. of the Hurricanes was also injured in the game.

Haynes had two runs for 81 yards and a touchdown on the Yellow Jackets' first possession. Eric Singleton Jr. came into the game at running back in place of Haynes.

Jamal Haynes injury update

Jamal Haynes suffered a head injury with 11:54 left in the first quarter. On the first-and-10 contest, he made a turnover and was hit in the head. He was helped off the field and taken to the medical tent on the sideline.

ESPN sideline reporter Kris Budden said he was ruled out of the game with a concussion after his helmet was taken away. She said he gave his gloves to a fan in the stands.

Eric Singleton Jr. steps in as the primary running back for Georgia Tech. Quarterback Haynes King, who is playing his first game after suffering a shoulder injury in October, could also be used more in the running game.

Jamal Haynes entered Saturday's game ninth in the ACC with 598 rushing yards. His eight touchdowns tied for fifth with Clemson's Phil Mafah. He also had 17 catches for 97 yards and a TD.

Haynes had a great opening drive for Georgia Tech, breaking off a 65-yard run before scoring a 16-yard touchdown.
