Man dies after being shot in W Houston apartment parking lot

A man has died after being injured by gunfire during a heated exchange in the parking lot of a west Houston apartment complex.

The incident occurred just before 10:30 a.m. Saturday morning at 6425 Westheimer Road.

Houston Police Department officers located a man with gunshot wounds and took him to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

KPRC 2 has obtained surveillance footage of the shooting, but at HPD's request we have decided not to release it at this time because the victim's family has not yet been notified.

Security footage shows the gunman – wearing a black shirt and khaki pants – walking on a sidewalk near the complex before encountering a man in a blue hat and quickly retreating. The two appear to be arguing and the man in the blue hat tries to throw an unknown object at the shooter.

The shooter then pulls a pistol from his pants and points it at the man in the blue hat. Undeterred by the presence of the weapon, the man continues to attack and is shot several times. Obviously wounded, he retreats before finally throwing the object he was holding.

The shooter remained at the scene and called 911. He surrendered to HPD officers at a nearby location and was taken into custody for further questioning. The officers also confiscated the weapon.

No charges have been filed at this time and the investigation is ongoing.
