Police say two children die in an accident after a driver ran a red light at high speed and crashed into their car

LAS VEGAS (KVVU/Gray News) – Police in Las Vegas are investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash Friday night that killed two children.

According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the accident occurred around 5:15 p.m. on the city's east side when a driver of a 2014 Lexus GS350 approached an intersection at a high rate of speed, ran a red light and crashed into a 2019 Mitsubishi Outlander.

According to the police, there was a driver, a 30-year-old woman and four teenagers in the Mitsubishi.

Two of the children were taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries but later died. Two other people suffered minor injuries and, along with the driver of the vehicle, were treated and released from the hospital.

According to authorities, the driver of the Lexus left the scene after the accident, leaving behind his two injured passengers.

Las Vegas police did not immediately identify those involved in the crash.

Investigators said they are continuing to search for the hit-and-run driver.
