Hammond police and DEA seize 100,000 pills from Tangipahoa home | Crime/Police

Hammond police and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration have arrested a man at his home in Tangipahoa Parish who they say had 100,000 pills, most of which contained fentanyl.

Marvin Thorn, 69, was arrested after police searched his Hammond home on Blackburn Extension near North Morrison Boulevard on Wednesday and found nearly 45 pounds of pills. Of those, 28 pounds tested positive for fentanyl, and another 3 pounds were methamphetamine, authorities say.

The rest of the pills were labeled oxycodone, but authorities suspect they also contained fentanyl. These pills are being submitted for testing, investigators say. Police said they also found 21 bottles of promethazine in Thorn's home.

Police say fentanyl is added to pills, heroin, cocaine and other drugs, often in lethal doses. According to authorities, the number of pills seized from Thorn's home could have killed hundreds of thousands of people.

Hammond police said they will continue to work with the DEA's Fentanyl Overdose Response Team to investigate suspected drug traffickers and dealers in the area.
