Police sergeant removed from duty after arrest for drunk driving

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – The Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) said one of its sergeants has been taken off duty after he was arrested for driving under the influence.

A decommissioned officer is relieved of police power.

According to MNPD, 50-year-old Michael Dixon was driving his personal pickup truck early Saturday morning when he pulled into a stranger's driveway on Old Hickory Boulevard near Dickerson Pike and walked to the porch.

The resident of the house yelled at him to leave and called the police.

When officers found Dixon, they said it was obvious he had been drinking and was impaired.

Police took him to General Hospital for a blood test before taking him to admission.

Police said Dixon is a 26-year veteran of the department who was assigned to the Special Investigations Division.

“MNPD’s Office of Professional Accountability will conduct an administrative investigation into this morning’s events,” Metro Police said.
