Man arrested after child injured in shooting in Elizabeth City

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (WITN) – A child is in the hospital after a shooting in Elizabeth City on Saturday, according to police.

Elizabeth City police said they responded to 108 Queen Street at 4:09 a.m. for a report of possible shots fired and found the building had been struck by gunfire.

Officials said they found several shell casings nearby.

During the investigation, officers discovered that a boy had been shot in the leg.

They say two other suspects, a child and an adult, were located and detained near the scene of the shooting.

The injured child was taken to Sentara Hospital in Elizabeth City and is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigating officers found and seized two 9 mm handguns and a .38 special revolver.

According to police, 20-year-old Quavion Martin, of the 300 block of Bank Street in Elizabeth City, was charged with negligent shooting in an inhabited dwelling.

Martin was lodged in the Albemarle County Jail without bail. His initial appearance is scheduled for Tuesday, November 12, 2024, in Pasquotank County District Court.
