Oregon nurse murdered while vacationing in Europe by a suspect she met at a nightclub: police

An Oregon nurse was found dead after disappearing from a nightclub while on vacation in Hungary.

Budapest Police Headquarters announced in a press release on November 8 that 31-year-old Mackenzie “Kenzie” Michalski had disappeared after disappearing from a nightclub while on vacation in the European country.

Her friends initially alerted authorities after the 31-year-old missed her departure and her belongings were left behind in her Airbnb.

Authorities used surrounding security footage and identified a male suspect who was last seen with Michalski.

In a translated post, authorities said Michalaski was seen with a man at several clubs the night of her disappearance.

On November 7, police arrested an Irish citizen in connection with the disappearance of the American tourist.

Investigators said the suspect admitted meeting the woman at a local nightclub and dancing before going to the man's apartment together.

Police said the couple “became intimate and he killed her in the process.”

Authorities said the Irish suspect cleaned his apartment and hid Michalski's body in a closet while he went shopping for a suitcase.

The suspect allegedly put Michalski's body in the suitcase, rented a car and drove to Lake Balaton, about an hour and a half's drive from Budapest.

Police said he hid Michalski's body in the forest before driving back to Budapest, where he was captured and arrested outside his apartment.

Homicide investigators questioned the 37-year-old Irish citizen with the initials LTM as a murder suspect. Authorities have not released the suspect's full name.

Authorities said he confessed to killing the woman but claimed it was an accident.

On a GoFundMe page, Michalski's friends and family described the nurse as a “light to our world.”
