Two arrested for vehicle theft and assault in Tompkins County, deputy injured

LANSING (WBNG) – The Tompkins County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of two adults on vehicle theft and assault charges Saturday.

The Tompkins County Sheriff's Office arrested Robert Snyder, 25, of Lansing, and Victoria Rose, 29, of Pennsylvania.

At approximately 11 a.m., the Tompkins County Sheriff's Office, along with Village of Cayuga Heights police and New York State Police, responded to a business in the 2300 block of N. Triphammer Road in the Village of Lansing.

The office said upon arrival, Synder and Rose were found at a store where they allegedly attempted to commit additional thefts. When officers arrived, they saw Snyder standing outside the store. Meanwhile, Rose was seen leaving the premises and walking around the vehicles in the car park.

According to the office, Snyder was taken into custody without incident. Meanwhile, Rose moved between parked vehicles and got into an unoccupied car that didn't belong to her. As officers approached, she backed up, hitting an uninjured officer, then collided with another parked car and sped away.

In a news release, the office said Rose was trying to elude authorities.

“Rose was quickly found in a parking lot further north on N. Triphammer Road. When officers pulled up behind Rose, they discovered she had already parked the vehicle and was running away on foot. An officer caught up with Rose and while taking Rose into custody, the officer was struck in the head by her several times before being arrested. The deputy sustained minor injuries.”

It turned out that Rose had stolen the getaway vehicle using keys she supposedly took from the store.

Rose and Snyder are being held at the Tompkins County Sheriff's Office during the ongoing investigation.
