Odds for the No. 1 pick ahead of NFL Week 10

play

When the Carolina Panthers and New York Giants meet this weekend in Munich, there could well be a battle for the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. But who will be the best player in next year's draft class?

The odds are stacked against who the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft will be, and early signs point to one of two stars on the Colorado Buffaloes. Which player it will be depends heavily on which team ultimately secures first place in the draft.

The Panthers and Giants are two of nine teams in the NFL that have recorded just two wins through the first half of the 2024 season. This makes them one of the top contenders for the most coveted pick in the draft. Something has to give when the two teams face off in Germany in Week 10 for the NFL's fifth and final international game of the year.

Will Carolina be the worst team in the NFL for the second year in a row? Or will New York win this honor for the first time in the Super Bowl era?

2025 NFL Draft: Odds for the No. 1 pick

The following players are BetMGM's top odds for the No. 1 overall pick in next year's draft. With four weeks left in the college football season and nine weeks left in the NFL, there can and will be a lot of change in these odds.

1. Shedeur Sanders, QB, Colorado: +300

The son of Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders is the current favorite to go No. 1 in the 2025 NFL Draft, according to BetMGM.

In eight games, Sanders has attempted exactly 300 passes. His 2,591 passing yards rank eighth nationally, his 21 touchdown passes are third-best, and his 73.3% completion rate is second-best. The Colorado quarterback has also thrown six interceptions this year, tied with several other top quarterback prospects: Texas' Quinn Ewers, Miami's Cam Ward and Alabama's Jalen Milroe.

Sanders is an accurate passer with good arm strength, ball placement and field vision, and he did it all behind a poorly rated offensive line. For many talent evaluators, the 22-year-old is the top quarterback in the 2025 class.

2. Cam Ward, QB, Miami (FL): +450

Sanders' biggest competition for the top quarterback spot in next year's draft is Ward, the Miami (FL) quarterback and Washington State transfer.

Ward is one of the most eye-catching quarterbacks in college football this year and has the ability to consistently generate explosive plays thanks to his strong arm and excellent touch. It's one of the reasons he leads FBS quarterbacks with 29 touchdown passes and has the second-most passing yards (3,146) of the group.

The Hurricanes' starter is able to improvise and extend plays because of his solid vision in the pocket and the ability to throw from different arm angles. However, he is also capable of big, devastating mistakes. Ward can be prone to bad interceptions when he tries to make something out of nothing rather than throwing the ball away for an innocuous incompletion.

3. Travis Hunter, CB/WR, Colorado: +750

Hunter is just ahead of Ward at BetMGM in odds to win this year's Heisman Trophy, and for good reason. The two-way star from Colorado is a legitimate contributor on both ends and is one of the reasons the Buffaloes won six games in a season for the first time since 2016.

As a wide receiver, Hunter ranks 17th among all FBS players with 757 receiving yards, a number that also makes him the third most productive pass catcher in the Big 12. His 60 receptions this year are the 10th most of any receiver this year and his eight touchdowns rank ninth. Hunter can line up in or out of the formation, is a plus route runner with his fluid mobility in and out of breaks, and has excellent acceleration and speed to increase his yards before and after the catch.

As a cornerback, the 21-year-old is also a legitimate difference maker. He ranks 19th among FBS defenders with seven pass defenses, topping the Big 12. He has also thrown two interceptions and forced a fumble this season, the latter coming at the goal line, giving Colorado a conference win over Baylor at the end September.

At this point, it's unclear which teams Hunter would prefer to play with or whether he will continue to play on both sides of the ball. Given that there are several teams with poor records that don't need a quarterback (see: Patriots, Jaguars), Hunter has a real chance to be the top pick in next year's draft.

4. Carson Beck, QB, Georgia: +1200

When the 2024 college football season began, Beck was the favorite to win the top pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Even though his chances have declined, the Georgia quarterback isn't completely out of the conversation just yet.

Beck's 2,302 passing yards, including multiple games with over 400 passing yards this season, ranks 15th among FBS quarterbacks. However, his recent play has raised concerns about his decision-making and his future in the NFL, as he has thrown eight interceptions in his last three games, increasing his total to 11 so far this season.

5. Will Campbell, OT, LSU: +1400

Campbell had already been considered a top candidate at his position for two years before the 2024 season even began.

The LSU tackle earned second-team All-SEC honors in 2022 and first-team All-SEC honors last year. Pro Football Focus (PFF) ranked Campbell as the second-best pass blocker in the country as a rookie in 2022, behind only Northwestern's Peter Skoronski, who was the No. 11 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. In 2023, PFF gave Campbell the fifth-highest run-blocking grade in college football.

Campbell will be another option for teams looking to both quarterback and compete for the top pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
