'SNL' Weekend Update Mocks Democrats After Donald Trump's Win

Saturday Night Live (SNL) took aim at the Democratic Party in its Weekend Update following Donald Trump's election victory on Tuesday.

In a decisive political comeback, Trump swept all the swing states, won both the popular vote and the White House, and defeated Vice President Kamala Harris, while his party retook the Senate and is on track to win the House

SNL hosts Colin Jost and Michael Che criticized the Democrats and their failure to win despite Trump's many setbacks in the election campaign.

“On Tuesday we learned that Democrats actually don’t know how to rig an election,” Jost opened, referencing Trump’s continued statements that the 2020 election was rigged.

“It's like we're living in a computer simulation and whoever controls Trump has a cheat code. He is invincible. He’s like a character in.” Grand Theft Auto who throws a prostitute out of a car and drives straight to the White House. But don't worry, knowing the Democrats, they will take a long look in the mirror, learn from their mistakes and then run [Joe] Biden again in 2028.”

Jost continued to joke about Biden's advanced age and his widely criticized performance in his June debate against Trump, after which he ended his re-election bid. “President Biden and President-elect Trump will meet in the Oval Office next week, where Biden will finally finish a sentence he started in the debate,” Jost said.

Trump and Biden are scheduled to meet on Wednesday to discuss the presidential transition.

During a presidential transition, it is common for a sitting president to invite the president-elect. However, in 2020, Trump, then the incumbent president, did not recognize or concede Biden's victory because he said the election was stolen through widespread fraud. Accordingly, Biden did not receive an invitation to the White House before his inauguration.

Che, who delivered the newscast while drinking alcohol in grief, joked that he had allowed his white liberal colleagues to give him hope of a Harris victory.

“How could I be convinced that rural Pennsylvania would choose the Jamaican Indian?” he said. “Obviously I’ve spent too much time with you white liberals and your silly optimism.

Jost joked that Democrats, like Che, might have to self-medicate to mitigate the loss.

“Before the election, Trump said he would 'medicate' RFK Jr., which is what Democrats have been doing all week,” Jost said while showing a picture of a pill bottle of Xanax, an anti-anxiety drug.
