Redditor Spots 'Wicked' Toy Error: Children's Toys URL is for an adult website, not a movie site

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Movie merchandise can make a lot of money for IP owners, so it's a little surprising that the people behind the upcoming Wicked movie haven't paid much attention to the packaging of the Wicked dolls.

The movie Wicked is primarily aimed at a more family-friendly demographic, so it wasn't surprising that a Reddit user was shocked to see the URL to one on the packaging of the Wicked Singing Elphaba doll she purchased listed adult website mentioned.

Redditor @Iamwomanhearme pour wrote: “I purchased the singing Elphaba doll and upon closer inspection, the website printed on the back of the Mattel box, just above the barcode, listed WWW.WICKED.COM – which is actually and not NSFW for “Adult” is connected to 18+ website. Not sure if this is a bug from Mattel or Universal?

Does anyone else see this!?!?”

Social media users on X/Twitter also discovered the error and posted pictures.

Malaysians who may be “curious” about the contents of the URL (wicked.com) will be disappointed as it is of course blocked by Malaysian ISPs.

The actual website for the Wicked movie is www.wickedmovie.com, and the dolls in question were produced by Mattel, but made in China.

Since the dolls are already on the market and available throughout the world, a recall due to such a defect would likely be cost-prohibitive.

As of press time, neither Universal City Studios nor Mattel have commented on the boo-boo.

The film is already in theaters with Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo in the lead roles, directed by Jon M Chu and Malaysia's Michelle Yeoh playing a supporting role.
