Brick Township man accused of starting wildfire in Jackson

A Brick Township man accused of starting the Jackson wildfire has been charged with arson, officials said.

Authorities say Richard Shashaty fired ammunition at a shooting range on Stump Tavern Road.

The fire, which broke out on November 6, burned 350 acres and is expected to leave smoke in the area for several days.

As of Sunday morning, officials said it was 90% contained. Stump Tavern Road also reopened.

Shashaty remains in the Ocean County Jail awaiting his initial court hearing.
