Some emails land in my inbox before kick-off:

Joe Pearson says: “Good morning, Dom, from rather gloomy and cloudy Indianapolis. As a Liverpool fan, a high scoring draw would be just what the doctor ordered. Please deliver. Thanks!”

Jeff Sax adds: “I've been saying for two years that Arteta doesn't have what it takes to win the Premier League…”

The double linchpin in Chelsea's midfield by Moisés Caicedo and Roméo Lavia have received well-deserved praise of late and it will be fascinating to see how they fare against quality opponents. Caicedo impressed at Manchester United last week but Lavia was unable to dictate the game like he had so far. The latter is only 20 years old, so his ceiling is sky high and today looks like a proper test of his credentials.

The two managers spoke before kick-off and you can see their reflections here:

Do that mean a return to the days of Sky Sports’ “GRAND SLAM SUNDAY” branding? Let's hope so.

Apart from a 3-0 win at Preston in the Carabao Cup, It's been a dry spell for Arsenal since the last international break – especially away from home. The Gunners have beaten Bournemouth, Inter and Newcastle, a run of defeats that has raised questions about Mikel Arteta's tactics and the team's overall sophistication.

Will the return of Ødegaard be a panacea to all these problems? Barney Ronay doubts it.

So everyone starts, injury doubts or not! Palmer probably isn't a big surprise. When asked about the playmaker's fitness in recent press conferences, Maresca has taken his cards pretty seriously and the fact that Palmer is not in Chelsea's Conference League squad has helped him. He should be fit and firing to be in the spotlight today. Reece James drops to the Blues bench, with Cucurella preferred and Gusto playing at right-back.

The bigger concern is Arsenal's injury squad, with Declan Rice apparently playing despite a broken toe and Ødegaard having only just returned from a long-standing ankle problem.

The positive result for both sides – and the neutrals – is two benches full of potential game-changers: Félix, Nkunku, Trossard, Jesus… oooften.

Official team news will appear at 3:15 p.m. We await news on several key midfielders. Arsenal fans will definitely want to see Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard. Both players are understood to have arrived at Stamford Bridge, along with Kai Havertz and Mikel Merino, who both picked up a knock in Milan in midweek.

Chelsea's concerns center around Cole Palmer, who suffered a battering from Lisandro Martinez at Manchester United last weekend, but the general consensus seems to be that Palmer will be fine. He would probably be the biggest missing person of all.

Here's some pre-game reading.

preamble

It is undoubtedly the headline game of the weekend and a rarity as a clash between two elite teams is so difficult to predict. There are arguments for both sides. Chelsea, one of the Premier League's in-form teams, have just won 8-0 and have sparked new hopes recently under Enzo Maresca; Although Arsenal have been unfocused and irritable of late, it's safe to assume that they have been pushing for the title over the last two seasons – with Chelsea finishing in mid-table during that time.

There are some delicious individual competitions to watch that will decide the competition. Will Nicolas Jackson win the fight against William Saliba? Can Declan Rice tie up Cole Palmer (if he's fit)? And could Chelsea's new-look, all-action midfield take charge, or will Martin Ødegaard (if fit) give the Gunners a timely boost in that area?

Official team news coming soon, Kick-off is at 4:30pm GMT (UK time). Should be good.
