Tottenham Hotspur 1-2 Ipswich Town: Tractor Boys get their first win of the season at Spurs

Before Sunday's game, Ipswich had led by 86 minutes this season, despite scoring first in five of their 10 league games.

Yet they have lost two of those games and drawn three, leaving them 12 points from winning positions – second only to Brentford (14).

They made sure they didn't add to that tally after an excellent overall performance in north London.

After a lively start, Szmodics had a close-range shot saved by home goalkeeper Vicario, while defender Cameron Burgess headed a corner from a tight angle against the Spurs crossbar.

Ipswich's early efforts were rewarded when Jens Cajuste's right-wing cross was assisted by Delap and, as the ball landed some 10 yards away, Brennan Johnson parried away, allowing Republic of Ireland striker Szmodics to finish in style.

With Spurs unable to respond, Omari Hutchinson won the ball in midfield, sparking an Ipswich attack, and although Vicario got a hand on Szmodics' low center, the ball deflected into the goal by defender Radu Dragusin and off Delap thrown into the net from the right on the goal line.

Spurs threatened a fightback early in the second half but only managed to fight back in the 69th minute and indeed Ipswich appeared largely content in the closing stages.

The win lifted the Tractor Boys to 17th place, one point above the relegation zone, and ended an 8,238-day wait for a Premier League win.
