The TV series “Mass Effect” is on its way to Amazon Prime Video

The wait is finally over: Amazon has put a live-action Mass Effect TV series into active development.

The exclusive, of course, came from Variety on N7 Day (November 7). The site also added that Daniel Casey (Fast & Furious 9, 10 Cloverfield Lane) will currently serve as writer and executive producer alongside Karim Zreik of Cedar Tree Productions and legendary producer Avi Arad (Spider-Man, Iron Man). Even BioWare's Michael Gamble, who is currently hard at work on the next Mass Effect game – one of our most anticipated upcoming space games – is joining us as an executive producer.

A film adaptation was once made for the big screen at Legendary Pictures, but this project never came to fruition. Now, after some rumors and dubious reports in 2021, Amazon and EA are moving full steam ahead with the Mass Effect TV show, potentially setting up a major comeback for the larger franchise ahead of the long-awaited fourth game entry (fifth, if you will) (Count the ill-fated 2017 spin-off Mass Effect: Andromeda.)

Mass Effect is widely considered the most important and influential modern science fiction video game series. So it's strange that it took so long for a live-action adaptation to finally come to market. At the end of 2020, fans were given new hope in the form of a mysterious teaser trailer for The Next Mass Effect. Shortly after, 2021 gave us Mass Effect Legendary Edition, a remaster of the original trilogy. Now that developer BioWare is returning to Dragon Age after many ups and downs and has its sights set on Mass Effect next, it seems like just the right time to start developing a show.
