Man charged in Crystal Lake stabbing pleads guilty to theft, sent to prison – Shaw Local

A man accused of stabbing another man in the parking lot of a Crystal Lake apartment complex and stealing his school bag pleaded guilty Friday to robbery.

Jarvoisias McCoy, 20, of Crystal Lake, was sentenced to five years and eight months in prison. He must serve half of his sentence. Upon his release, he will be placed on supervised release for one year. According to an order signed by McHenry County Court Judge Mark Gerhardt, he will receive credit for 324 days served in jail.

In exchange for McCoy's plea, additional charges were dismissed, including a more serious charge of armed robbery, a Class X felony that could have given him up to 30 years in prison. Cases of aggravated robbery and aggravated assault were also dismissed, according to court records.

On August 29, 2022, police said McCoy stabbed the man in the stomach. He also stated “orally or by his actions” that he was armed with a firearm and threatened “imminent violence” while taking a man's shoulder bag, which the indictment alleges was valued at less than $500 had.

When McCoy was charged, Crystal Lake police said the robbery occurred in the parking lot of an apartment complex in Crystal Lake around 1:30 p.m. and that the men knew each other but did not say what was in the bag.

McCoy was charged and arrested in July 2023. A few months later, he posted $15,000, 10% of a $150,000 bond, and was released from custody at the county jail. He was ordered to surrender all firearms. However, in November 2023, he was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon in Cook County, a violation of the conditions of his release. He was taken back into custody in December, where he remained, according to a motion to revoke his provisional release.

“During a search, police found a loaded Glock firearm in his pants,” said the revocation order signed by Judge Tiffany Davis.
