Man accused of robbing Dollar General and assaulting police officers

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – A man was arrested after he was accused of stealing $20 worth of merchandise from a Dollar General and assaulting a police officer, according to an arrest report.

On Friday, November 8, officers were dispatched to a Dollar General at 1755 Dr. DB Todd Jr. Blvd. called.

When police arrived, they spoke with the store's manager, who said the suspect, 32-year-old Timothy Eugene Harris, stole about $20 worth of merchandise.

According to the manager, she told police that Harris put chips, a drink, candy and air freshener in his pants and in the pocket of his hoodie. To prevent Harris from leaving with the items, she said she locked the doors.

When officers arrived, they attempted to arrest Harris, but he began resisting, according to the arrest report. As he fought back, Harris allegedly broke one of the officer's $400 glasses, leaving scratch marks on his hand. According to the report, part of the police radio was also broken during the incident.

The officer also suffered a knee injury, according to the report.

After Harris was arrested, he requested an ambulance due to chest pains. Paramedics also bandaged the officer's bleeding knee.

Harris also claimed to be another person, but officers were unable to find anyone under the name he provided.

Police were eventually able to identify Harris using his fingerprints and discovered that he had two outstanding warrants.

Harris was accused of:

  • Assault on a police officer causing bodily harm
  • Theft of $1,000 or less
  • Criminal impersonation
  • Resisting arrest
  • Contraband in the prison system

Harris was booked on $30,500 bond.
