The district is issuing a statement after a local teacher's social media posts went viral following Trump's victory

POCATELLO — A local school district has released a statement after a series of social media posts from a teacher went viral over the weekend with over 1.3 million views.

Libs of TikTok, a right-wing social media account, shared a screenshot from Century High School teacher Lori Lombard's social media conversation with Michael McClanahan of Rockland.

Since being posted Friday on X, formerly known as Twitter, the tweet has received 54,000 likes, 22,000 shares and 2,800 comments.

Century High School's website lists Lombard as a career technical education teacher.

The Facebook comments were originally dated Nov. 5 on an article titled “Donald Trump wins Idaho” posted on the Idaho State Journal's Facebook page.

The full conversation is no longer available online, but screenshots were shared in the Life in Pocatello Facebook group.

An hour after Trump's victory in Idaho was announced, Lombard wrote her first post.

“It just shows that Idahoans don’t pay attention to real data and what a terrible job he did and they don’t care about felony convictions. We should eliminate criminal background checks in this state because most citizens don't care if someone has lied, stolen, or defrauded banks and taxpayers out of millions. “Every felon deserves a job,” she commented.

In response, McClanahan posted a meme of Trump saying, “Nobody cares.”

Lombard's response quickly devolved into rude insults and taunts.

“I hope that your lover or your daughter has an unwanted pregnancy, wait, I looked at your picture, you don't have a lover… and you probably never made anyone have a daughter from you unless it happened with violence,” she wrote.res

“Seriously, Michael, cover up your profile picture. You look pathetic and ridiculous. Everyone will know that if you don’t force yourself on a poor woman, you can’t get a wife or have children.”

The full exchange can be viewed in this video.

EastIdahoNews.com reached out to Lombard several times asking for context or a response, but we have not received a response.

Pocatello/Chubbuck School District 25 released an official statement Sunday “regarding a recent social media interaction involving an employee.” The district did not identify Lombard by name or directly reference her comments.

“Pocatello/Chubbuck School District 25 is aware of concerns regarding a recent social media interaction with one of our teachers. These concerns were forwarded to the district and school administration for review. We take them very seriously,” the statement said. “The district expects a respectful dialogue and will address concerns constructively. Ensuring the safety and well-being of everyone is our top priority. Any threats or harassment will be referred to the appropriate authorities.”

The statement said the district was limited in what it could say because the issue was a “personnel matter,” but stressed the importance of “balancing the freedom of expression of individuals with the responsibility of educators as role models.” bring to”. In the classroom and school, our teachers focus on the curriculum and not personal/political views.”

“Although personal opinions shared outside of school hours on personal social media that are unrelated to the school district are protected, we recognize that these statements can have an impact on the community,” the statement said. “Whether with consent or not, the district is not responsible for employees’ conduct or statements outside of school.”
