Two more people have been arrested following the death of a Detroit Lakes missionary in Africa

A week after a Detroit Lakes woman was arrested in connection with the death of her husband, a missionary working in Africa, two more suspects were taken into custody, according to a report from the Angola Press Agency.

Beau Shroyer, 44, a former police officer and real estate agent from Detroit Lakes, was killed Oct. 25 “by an act of violence,” according to his home church. He moved to Angola with his wife and five children in 2021 to do missionary work.

In an article published on November 7, the Angola Press Agency reported that two men were arrested in a suspected murder-for-hire plot that resulted in the missionary's death. The article, translated from Portuguese, quoted information from the Criminal Investigation Department, which is under the supervision of the Angolan Interior Ministry. The suspects arrested included a 23-year-old man and a 24-year-old man who worked as a security guard at the Shroyer home. The police are still looking for another suspect. All of the men suspected of murder have a criminal record that includes armed robbery and kidnapping.

According to the report, Jackie Shroyer is accused of being the “mastermind” behind the murder. The medium pointed to police suspicions that the woman and the security guard were allegedly in a romantic relationship and that Jackie Shroyer had concerns about leaving Angola once her husband's mission ended.

The Angola Press Agency reported that Beau Shroyer was killed when he was allegedly lured to a remote area while the suspects pretended to have car trouble. Jackie Shroyer had reportedly left the scene at this point. The suspects were supposed to be paid a sum of $50,000 for the killing. The outlet said that in addition to the vehicle used to commit the crime, a knife and Angolan Kwanza worth around $5,000 were also seized as evidence.

Beau Shroyer was a police officer in Detroit Lakes, a city of 10,000, for about seven years before becoming a real estate agent and later a missionary.
