17-year-old charged with murder in gang-related shooting

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – A 17-year-old has been arrested and charged in connection with murder a shooting on Ellis Street that left a homeless woman dead in Julyaccording to arrest warrants.

According to an arrest warrant, Jayden Xavier Bell of Augusta was arrested Thursday.

At about 12:50 p.m. on July 27, Bell sent the location of a rival gang in a group text message to his fellow gang members, according to the arrest warrant.

According to the warrants, Bell knew that gang members who received his text messages were going to commit a violent act.

The warrants also state that Bell “unlawfully engaged in criminal street gang activity, namely: Everybody on Loyalty Gang, as they engaged in a pattern of criminal gang activity.”

The victim, Argie Jones, 54, was outside a residence in the 1900 block of Ellis Street, the address Bell allegedly sent to the gang members.

According to arrest warrants, gang members fired multiple shots at the home, hitting Jones and causing her death.

Bell is being held without bail in the Richmond County Jail.
