Man arrested after 54-year-old woman fatally shot in Hawthorne – Daily Breeze

A 54-year-old woman died after a shooting Sunday morning, Nov. 10, in Hawthorne.

According to Lt. Shawn Shimono, a spokesman for the Hawthorne Police Department, officers responded to a shooting near the intersection of Doty Avenue and El Segundo Boulevard around 11 a.m.

Callers told police that the suspect initially stayed at the scene after shooting the woman, but later dropped his gun and walked away.

When police arrived, they found the woman with multiple gunshot wounds to her upper body. Los Angeles County Fire Department officials pronounced the woman dead at the scene.

Officers also saw a man matching the suspect's description walking away from the scene on Doty, police said.

Police arrested the 49-year-old man without incident and witnesses said he was the one who shot the woman, police said. He was arrested on suspicion of murder.

The investigation is ongoing. Police have not publicly identified the victim.
