North Dighton man charged with drunk driving after car crash – NBC Boston

A 67-year-old man faces multiple charges following a car accident Saturday evening in Swansea, Massachusetts.

Police say Gary Silva, of North Dighton, was driving his van south on Route 118 and speeding shortly before 9 p.m. According to police, Silva's vehicle ran a red light at the intersection of Route 118 and Route 6 and crossed the gas station parking lot, where it crashed into a wooded area behind the gas station.

Police say Silva was allegedly attempting to back out of the wooded area back into the gas station parking lot when a witness intervened. The witness was able to park the vehicle safely and remove the keys, police said.

No one was injured in the incident.

Silva was taken into police custody and faces several charges related to the vehicle, including driving under the influence.

Silva will be arraigned in Fall River District Court on Tuesday. It is unclear whether he has a lawyer.
