Nick Nurse should already make three lineup changes to save the 76ers

Things are not looking good for the Philadelphia 76ers heading into the 2024-25 season. Having already suffered five defeats in just six games so far, the team needs to catch up with their rivals, although they will still have to wait until they can finally get their entire roster back.

However, it is still far too early to really panic. The 76ers haven't had a lenient game plan and injuries to their stars haven't helped either. Nevertheless, there are already some patterns apparent in the first six games that Nick Nurse and the coaching staff should use to make viable adjustments to the lineup.

Here are three lineup changes the team should seriously consider.

Caleb Martin, one of the new faces on the team, only needed one game to convince the coaching staff to move him into the starting lineup. However, since his impressive first outing, he has become fairly forgotten, especially on offense. Until now he was one of them worst He was the best shooter in the NBA, sinking just 18.8 percent of his threes and shooting 32.7 percent overall.

The problem is that Martin takes up way too many minutes at 34.5 minutes a night. While this is likely done out of necessity, the 76ers need to start saving some of his minutes and giving them more time to get even more scoring help, especially since the team is 26th in offensive rating.

Guerschon Yabusele was an absolute star for the 76ers in his NBA comeback. Although he was forced to play out of position, he held his own as an undersized center, displaying the typical physicality that characterized his play in Europe. However, he was even more impressive on offense as a malleable goal scorer in advance.

Joel Embiid's impending return should completely wipe out his minutes at center unless he's desperately needed, but that shouldn't mean he's taken out of the rotation. In fact, the 76ers coaching staff should continue to give him minutes and use him even more, as the team lacks natural forwards to make an impact against stout opponents.

Eric Gordon has been pretty average so far, but his minutes have been largely forgettable. Sure, he'll hit a three-pointer here and there, but other than that he doesn't really offer much else to the team, and his immediate move to the bench shows just that.

But instead of continuing to give him significant minutes, Nurse should look to focus on his young talent to fill his role going forward. Jared McCain has logged just 11.2 minutes per game while Ricky Council has logged just seven minutes per game so far, and both players arguably have more robust skill sets that can help the 76ers in the present while strengthening them for the future .
