The final “season” of “Good Omens” will only have one episode

The third and final season of Good omens at Prime Video, the definition of “season” in TV will expand – or perhaps shrink.

The Amazon-owned streamer announced Thursday that the series, which stars Michael Sheen and David Tennant and is based on the novel by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, will conclude with a single feature-length episode. Production on the 90-minute installment is scheduled to begin in Scotland early next year.

Prime Video also noted that Gaiman will not be involved in the production of the series ending (although he did contribute to the writing). Earlier this year, five women accused the author of sexual assault; Her claims are detailed in a podcast titled Master: The allegations against Neil Gaiman. He denied any wrongdoing but offered to pull out of the final Good omens to advance production and complete the story.

The streamer renews Good omens for a final season in December 2023. The show centers on the angel Aziraphale (Sheen) and the demon Crowley (Tennant), who must work together to avert Armageddon. The show began as a limited series, but its success led to its renewal for a second season, which aired in July 2023.

Rob Wilkins of Narrativia, representing the estate of Terry Pratchett, and Josh Cole, head of comedy at BBC Studios Productions, will produce the final season/episode. Good Omens comes from Amazon MGM Studios, BBC Studios Productions and Narrativia.

Prime Video also has another Gaiman adaptation: Anansi boyson his squad. Production on this show is complete, but there is no premiere date yet (it will likely be pushed back to 2025). Both Anansi boys And Good omens were products of a first-look deal between Gaiman and Amazon; The Hollywood Reporter has requested comment on the status of the deal.
