Woman killed in apparent domestic violence; Heavy police presence observed at second location

PEORIA (25News Now) – Peoria Police Chief Eric Echevarria confirmed that a woman was shot in a suspected act of domestic violence Sunday evening.

Meanwhile, a heavy police presence was seen at a second location in Peoria.

The woman's death was reported following an incident near Republic Street and North Wisconsin Avenue in East Bluff. It is not yet known whether there have been any arrests.

Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood said the female victim was pronounced dead at OSF St. Francis Medical Center.

Harwood is not releasing the victim's identity until her relatives are notified.

He said an autopsy would be conducted on Monday.

A 25News team also saw a crime scene on Sodus Court, south of West Reservoir Boulevard in central Peoria. Echevarria said one person was shot and is in the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
