Central official charged with double fraud and timesheet fraud

CENTRAL, La. (WAFB) – A Central Police Department officer is in trouble after he is accused of committing timesheet fraud and stealing from the department.

Documents obtained by WAFB I-TEAM Show Officer Huey Haley, 41, is charged with multiple felonies including grand theft, filing false public records, filing false public records by alteration, public payroll fraud and abuse of office. He resigned on Sunday.

The documents show Haley is accused of committing the crimes between at least October 2023 and October 2024. Investigators seized Haley's timesheets filed during those periods, which showed Haley claimed to have worked 348 hours and 59 minutes more than he actually did, the warrant states.

The alleged fraud resulted in Haley being paid more than $7,640.47 for hours he did not work.

Investigators learned that Haley reportedly went to work at least 19 times for days at a time when he did not actually come to work, according to an arrest warrant filed in 19th Judicial District Court.

On at least five occasions, Haley allegedly “double-deceived” by claiming to work for the police while also working extra shifts.

A law enforcement employee raised the alarm after reportedly noticing that Haley's timesheet for September 2024 indicated he had worked more hours than he should have, the warrant states. According to the warrant, Haley refused to answer questions when questioned by investigators.

County Commissioner Nicole Robinson signed the warrant on Wednesday, October 23rd.

“We are devastated by this breach of public trust by our most senior official. Please note that Haley's actions are in no way representative of the character and integrity of the hard-working men and women of the Central Police Department. Although this is a dark day for us, we will persevere and move forward in a positive direction as we continue to serve our citizens,” said Police Chief Roger Corcoran.

It was unclear whether Haley had retained an attorney who could comment on his behalf.
