A man was arrested over the weekend in connection with the death of a relative at her Westminster home, police said.

According to a statement from the Westminster Police Department, officers were called to the 8200 b 19th Street lock at approximately 9:45 p.m. Friday evening to conduct a welfare check after the victim had not been heard from for several days.

“During the welfare check, the woman was determined to be dead,” the statement said. “The evidence at the scene suggests her death was the result of murder.”

Investigators who served a search warrant at the apartment said they found additional evidence and that a person of interest was arrested “almost immediately” and taken to a police station.

They say the suspect, 38-year-old Irving Mondragon, was arrested on suspicion of murder. It is unclear what relationship he and the victim have.

Investigators did not provide any information about how the woman was killed or what the motive was behind the incident.
