At a performance at Rod Laver Arena, the penultimate song of Tones And I's headlining set was “Dance With Me,” the fourth single from their 2024 album. Beautifully ordinary.

While the album topped the ARIA charts in Australia, Tones And I did not have a chart hit in the US other than their breakthrough single “Dance Monkey”, which reached No. 4 on the Hot 100 in 2019.

Tones And I pumped up the crowd, urging the audience to “Please give it up for an Australian icon, the most iconic breakdancer of all, Raygun!”

The controversial Olympian took the stage to show off her breaking skills throughout the performance, bringing back memories of her viral performance at the Paris Olympics for everyone in attendance.

After Raygun's performance, Tones And I shared a video of the encounter on social media and expressed their gratitude for the breaker. She described her as “the most beautiful, friendly and cheerful person I have ever met”.

“It was an honor to celebrate you last night,” she added. “Thank you for sharing the stage with me and putting smiles on so many faces. You always have a friend in me.”

Raygun, a 37-year-old university lecturer from Sydney, shot to fame in August when he failed to score points in routines that included a “kangaroo” dance at the Paris Olympics. The following month, the World DanceSport Federation issued a statement to “provide clarity” as to why Raygun had managed to top the sport's latest world rankings.

Their statement revealed that the methodology for the rankings was based on each athlete's four best performances in the last 12 months – but excluded Olympic events including the Paris Games and the Olympic qualifying series in Shanghai and Budapest.

Earlier this month, the competitive athlete made headlines again when reports emerged that she had announced her retirement from the sport.

She later stated that she would no longer compete, although she would not retire from the total break.
