Scenes from Saturday's parade in downtown Staunton

STAUNTON – The 2024 Veterans Day Parade took place downtown Saturday morning.

The parade began on North Market Street and moved west to Beverley Street. Crowds lined the streets and waved flags.

Veterans Day, formerly known as Armistice Day, is celebrated each year on November 11, the day an armistice or “truce” was declared between the Allied countries and Germany in 1918, ending World War I, later known as World War I I became known.

Veterans took part in the parade, including members of the VFW, American Legion and Honor Guard. Mary Baldwin University's Virginia Women's Institute for Leadership participated, as did the Augusta County Schools Honor Band and the Staunton High School Marching Band.

The parade is sponsored by the Staunton Rotary Club.
