Jack White plays an impromptu show at the High Noon Saloon

Jack White, whose Detroit-based garage-punk duo the White Stripes was one of the biggest rock acts of the 2000s, is playing the intimate High Noon Saloon in Madison on Thursday for an impromptu show as “Jack White with Whippets.”

White played First Avenue in Minneapolis on Wednesday night, and a review in the Minnesota Star Tribune called his return to the venue on Thursday “an entry for the history books.”

The review said White's “pop-up tour” hits smaller, historic venues.

“Seven decades later, rock and roll is no longer full of surprises,” wrote critic Chris Riemenschneider. “What a joy it was to see the element of surprise hit 1,500 very happy fans on First Avenue on Wednesday night.”
