Waterloo man arrested after attempted theft at Walmart

A Waterloo man was arrested Sunday afternoon after he allegedly attempted to steal several items from a Walmart in Seneca Falls, according to local police.

John S. Smith, 44, was arrested around 3 p.m. after he was seen removing merchandise from the Walmart on North Road. According to police, Smith collected various items, removed them from the packaging and damaged some of the property before passing all the points of sale without attempting to pay.

Smith was charged with one count of petit larceny and one count of fourth-degree criminal mischief. Following his arrest, he was transported to the Rochester Police Department where he has an outstanding warrant for his arrest on various charges.
