Viral video: Joe Biden's unsteady walk on Delaware's sandy beach causes a stir on social media: “Rumbling, reeling, stumbling…”

Joe Biden, the outgoing US president, made headlines on Sunday after a video showing him walking weakly on the sandy beach near his home in Delaware went viral.

The now-viral video footage shows the 81-year-old US president seemingly leaning on his wife, First Lady Jill Biden, during the walk. This raises questions about his physical fitness just weeks before President-elect Donald Trump takes office as the 47th President of the United States.

Social media was abuzz with reactions to the video of Biden's walk. Critics pointed to Joe Biden's difficulty navigating the uneven terrain and some speculated about his health before the Jan. 20 transition of power.

The 45-second video clip, captured by CSPAN, shows Biden navigating the deep, uneven sand at a brisk but uncertain pace as reporters questioned him about his upcoming meeting with Donald Trump at the White House on Wednesday.

Joe Biden faced massive criticism after his disastrous performance in the June debate this year and several verbal blunders that garnered attention on social media. With his mental fitness under pressure due to age-related concerns, he decided to drop out of the presidential race.

Reaction on social media

A Republican National Committee social media account commented, “Biden is currently battling the sand at his beach house in Delaware.”

Steve Cortes, founder of the League of American Workers, declared: “Joe Biden cannot walk on sand.”

A third user wrote: “Rumbling, reeling, stumbling…” Another user declared: “This man is the president for the next 71 days.”

A fifth user remarked: “Me at the end of the bar crawl.”

Donald Trump made a historic comeback in the US presidential election on November 5, 2024, after being ousted after his first term in office in 2020. He defeated Democratic presidential candidate and Vice President Kamala Harris. This return to power for a non-consecutive term comes almost after 130 years in the nation's history. Before Trump, Grover Cleveland won back the White House in the 1892 election.
