David Wade: correctional officer arrested for abuse of power

CLAIBORNE PARISH, La. (KSLA) – A David Wade Correctional Center employee was arrested for allegedly abusing her power as a member of the Louisiana Department of Corrections.

Louisiana State Police officials said investigators arrested Helen Washington-Turner, 48, of Haynesville, on Wednesday, Oct. 23, at approximately 4 p.m.

The investigation into Washington-Turner's alleged conduct began back in July, when investigators learned that Washington-Turner had sent unauthorized crime query results to another agency out of state while on the job. Officials also say she used her agency's official letterhead to challenge the validity of an active arrest warrant for a family member.

Washington-Turner is accused of abuse of office and false identity. She turned herself in to authorities Wednesday and was booked into the Claiborne Parish Detention Center.
