Charges increased against Daphne man after child dies after crash in Florida

ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. (WALA) – An Alabama man is now facing charges of vehicular homicide and intoxication manslaughter following the death of a teenager days after a crash in Escambia County, Florida, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Shawn Wilber, of Daphne, was arrested Sunday by the FHP on an active warrant stemming from Wednesday's accident.

Officials said a teenage victim died Saturday as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.

According to the highway patrol, the accident involved a Toyota SUV that was struck by a Dodge Ram driven by Wilber. The accident occurred on Interstate 10 near mile marker 9 just after 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Wilber was originally charged with drunk driving and arrested for causing serious bodily injury on the night of the accident. He posted bail and was released from the Escambia County Jail.

After the teenager's death, the charges were increased.
