2 dead after crash on northbound I-35 near Derby

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – Update: According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, two people were killed in the crash early Monday morning on the Kansas Turnpike.

According to KHP, two semi-trucks collided when one hit a deer and then hit the center barrier.

The other semi-trailer slid off the side of the road and a car crashed into the parked semi-trailer. Both people in the car were killed. Both tractor-trailers were taken to the hospital.

The KHP said northbound I-135 should reopen around 9 a.m

I-35 northbound is closed near Derby after a crash early Monday.

The accident occurred around 4:30 this morning near Exit 39. Sedgwick County dispatchers said one person was headed to the hospital with extremely life-threatening injuries, while two other people were seriously injured.
