The sheriff publicly identifies the stabbed Dale County woman

DALE COUNTY, Ala. (WTVY) – The man who investigators suspect murdered a Dale County woman lived nearby, but investigators say his motive is unclear.

Dale County officials filed charges against 29-year-old James Johnson Sunday evening, about 12 hours after those officials and the victim's father found 57-year-old Sherry Clark at her home.

“Her father was concerned when she didn’t show up for work Sunday morning,” said Dale County Sheriff Mason Bynum.

The father called officers, who forced their way into Clark's home, where they discovered her body, which had multiple stab wounds to her upper extremities, Bynum said.

An autopsy should provide additional information.

Johnson had moved into their neighborhood and, according to multiple sources, he was recently serving time in Florida.

A search of court records uncovered multiple people with the same name, and judicial offices that could provide clarity were closed Monday for Veterans Day.

Bynum said he would speak further about the crime in his speech to the media Tuesday morning.
