Badgers coach Luke Fickell is expected to speak to reporters at noon Monday.

Del Rio joined Wisconsin's staff in August as a special adviser to Fickell after spending nearly 35 years in the NFL as a player and coach. During his NFL career, he coached the Jacksonville Jaguars (2003-11) and Oakland Raiders (2015-17) and was most recently the defensive coordinator of the Washington Commanders before being fired last November.

What will Wisconsin football do at quarterback in 2025?

Del Rio's role with the Badgers has been to provide general support on both sides of the ball as well as a sounding board for player personnel as Wisconsin prepares for a professional model brought about by the proposed settlement in the House-NCAA antitrust dispute. Players called Del Rio a “resource” and said he would stop by meeting rooms and offer advice.

Fickell and Del Rio met when Fickell was pursuing an NFL career and Del Rio was a strength coach for the New Orleans Saints.
