Lawrence police are searching for two men accused of attacking an unconscious victim

LAWRENCE, Kan. (KCTV) – One man has been arrested and two remain “at large” after they reportedly left a man unconscious on a sidewalk in Lawrence.

The incident occurred on November 9th around 3:30 p.m. in the 700 block of Vermont Street. Lawrence police said witnesses called 911 to report a man lying unconscious after a fight.

When officers arrived, they took statements from several people involved. The victim was taken to a local hospital and gave a statement that Lawrence police said was inconsistent with what they were told at the scene.

Based on additional witness statements and videos of the incident, police determined that the victim's statements were accurate. The videos showed him being punched and kicked repeatedly, even when he was unconscious.

One of the suspects, a 34-year-old man, was found and arrested. He was booked into the Douglas County Correctional Facility on suspicion of aggravated assault. Two other men, a 36-year-old and a 37-year-old, remain “at large,” Lawrence police said.

The victim was released from the hospital later on Saturday after receiving treatment.

No further information is currently available.
